PETALING JAYA: Buyers of 2012 model year Mercedes-Benz S Class are entitled to a RM100,000 discount.

A check with a Mercedes-Benz dealer revealed that the discount was given in conjunction with the German luxury brand’s year-end offer and stock clearance exercise.

“The discount is offered to anyone, including individual buyers, as long as the 2012 stock is still available,” said the dealer who did not want to be identified.

However, he said the discount is not applicable for 2013 and 2014 models of the S Class.

The Penang state government recently attracted criticism when it bought a new Mercedes-Benz S300L to replace Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s 18-year-old official car, a Mercedes-Benz S320.

The state government claimed that new S300L was bought at a bargain price – at just a little more than the amount paid for the earlier Mercedes-Benz in 1995.

Lim’s new official car was priced at RM298,263.75 after tax exemption and a special discount of RM100,000.

State Financial Officer Datuk Mokhtar Jait said the discount was given as the S300L was a 2012 model.
